Why I Require Full Payment for No-Shows

Running Areté Beauty & Wellness alone means that every appointment I take is my only source of income.

Each treatment is carefully prepared just for you, and when you book an appointment, that time is reserved solely for you. I also prepare the room, all the tools, and ingredients needed for your treatment, sometimes this even includes heating the wax or setting up specialized equipment. All of this requires time and effort to ensure you receive the best possible experience.

A Story About Fake Bookings

Not long ago, I received a booking under the name of Sonja Bakker, a well-known Dutch dietitian who actually lives in Spain! The name, phone number and email were fake. It was a clear fake booking, so I canceled the appointment.

Experiences like this remind me why prepayment, deposits, and a clear cancellation policy are so important. When a slot is reserved, it’s your time and mine, and if it isn’t honored, it can’t be recovered.

A Real Client Example

I always send reminders before appointments to help clients keep their scheduled time. Even with reminders, I once had a client who booked three appointments back-to-back in one day and didn’t show up. She was asked to pay in full for the missed sessions, which is fair, since that time was reserved exclusively for her.

When she came in for her next appointment, she expected the session to be free. I had to explain kindly but clearly that this isn’t how it works: my time is valuable, and missed appointments are lost time that can’t be returned. She decided not to return, and that’s completely fine with me. I prefer to work with clients who respect me and my time.

Please note that prices cannot be negotiated after the treatment is done. Clear pricing and treatment information, combined with prepayment or deposits when needed, ensures fairness for everyone and allows me to focus entirely on providing the highest-quality service.

My 24-Hour Cancellation Policy

  • Please let me know at least 24 hours in advance if you need to cancel or reschedule.

  • Appointments canceled later or missed without notice are charged in full.
